Job description

causaLens builds AI-powered Digital Workers that automate high-stakes enterprise workflows. We run finance the same way: AI-native, systemised, lean — a CFO and you, with automation and specialist advisors doing the rest.

We went live on an AI-native ERP (Light) in August, with payroll in-house and primary banking integrated. The first close on the new system runs in September. You're joining at the point where a new system has to become a reliable one: own the close, get the numbers clean and trusted, then push the automation as far as it will go.

This is hands-on with real scope. You'll be in the ledger and in the systems architecture, often on the same day.

Working with the CFO

You report to the CFO and run the operating reality of finance. The CFO keeps the board, investors, the raise, statutory sign-off, and the technical-accounting calls; everything operational is yours — including which tools, automations, and AI workflows the function runs on.

What you'll own

  • The close and the numbers — month-end end-to-end: management accounts, balance-sheet reconciliations, accruals and prepayments, and the judgement to know when a number looks wrong. Then engineer it so most of it runs without you.

  • The systems — Light to its full automation potential, Slack-first; you own the roadmap, lead the org through the change, and deploy our own Digital Workers into live finance workflows.

  • The operating machine — UK/US compliance and multi-entity payroll (PAYE, P11D, PSA, VAT), run lean through automation and external specialists rather than headcount. You own the day-to-day advisor relationships; the CFO keeps technical sign-off and the audit relationship.

  • Treasury and cash — a live, automated daily cash position across the UK and US, a forecast you trust, and working capital.

  • Quote-to-cash — HubSpot through invoicing, deferred revenue, and collections, with ARR a live, reconciled number; plus the gatekeeper that protects what enters the ledger.

  • Reporting and the raise — a clean actuals layer that feeds board reporting with no manual prep, plus the diligence-ready numbers behind the next fundraise.

  • Accounting and equity — first-pass IFRS 15 and IFRS 2 mechanics, audit prep, share-scheme admin (EMI, ERS), and integrating Carta into the stack.

Where this grows

As you systemise the core and automation compounds, the role expands into the higher-value finance work: business partnering across the wider team, taking on more of the FP&A model and annual budget over time, inference-cost and cost-to-serve economics, and FDE delivery economics.

Over time this seat can grow toward running the finance function — a new-style FD in a heavily automated team.

Job requirements

Essential

  • Hands-on ownership of month-end close, management accounts, and balance-sheet reconciliations. Non-negotiable — you'll own numbers people rely on from your first month.

  • 3–5 years in finance, from an accounting outsourcing/practice background or in-house startup finance operations. Part-qualified or qualified (ACCA, CIMA, ACA), or a clear equivalent track record.

  • Real ERP experience: you've worked inside one, ideally through an implementation, and know what clean quote-to-cash architecture looks like.

  • Agent-first automation — you build, not just use. Fluent from no-code (n8n, Zapier) to MCP and code when a workflow outgrows it; you automate first and hire second.

  • Baseline payroll and UK compliance awareness — enough to spot when a number is wrong.

  • Comfortable in startup pace and ambiguity, and happy to own the cross-functional problem when it needs an owner.

Nice to have: SaaS revenue recognition (IFRS 15 / ASC 606); equity accounting (IFRS 2); HubSpot–ERP integration; SQL/Python; multi-entity consolidation and FX.

What success looks like

In 12 months: books closed in days not weeks, with most journals and reconciliations running without you. A live daily cash position across the UK and US, forecast-driven. Deal close to invoice with no manual handoffs, and ARR a number nobody has to rebuild. Board reporting that assembles itself from clean actuals. Finance running a business at multiples of today's scale, with two people and a stack of automations.
